One of my most recent books started like this. In one of my classes, we were talking about an interesting topic, and I decided to write a short story based on what we discussed, which is turning into a proper book.

When you’re writing your first drafts, remember that it’s only the first step! They don’t have to be good! So keep going with your writing, no matter what — you never know what will happen!
Being a perfectionist, I find it really hard to remember that first drafts are simply drafts, but I find it is very constructive just to jot down ideas — even if it’s just a list of things you’re going to include, or a brief scene that you’ll add to later.

I’ve been writing since I was very young and started my first proper book when I was about eight or nine years old. Almost ten years later I’m still really enjoying it. Although I’m not perfect at writing (and it’s reassuring that no one is), I do have some experience of what things work (or don’t work) for me and I’ve written some of them on this blog to inspire you to keep writing.
